FAQs

How does the furniture work?

It's electric! You plug it in, turn it on and the furniture warms up.

How warm does the furniture get?

Our heated furniture warms up quickly and provides a cozy, comfortable temperature, adjustable from 80–120°F. It plugs into a standard 120V outlet (GFCI-rated for outdoor use) and won’t get too hot—just warm enough to take the chill off. Temperature may vary by piece and surroundings. For details, contact us or visit our showroom.

Is the temperature adjustable?

Yes, all Galanter & Jones heated furniture allows you to adjust the temperature to your comfort level. The internal thermostat ensures energy efficiency by pulling only the necessary power to maintain the set temperature. The controls let you increase or decrease the heat output as needed, making it easy to customize for different weather conditions or personal preferences.

You'll know your heated furniture has reached the target temperature setting (1 = minimum, 6 = maximum) when:

The LED indicator light on the controller box under the seat changes from green to orange. You hear a relay click off, similar to a home thermostat. For safety, all our designs have an automatic shut-off timer. If left on, your furniture will turn off after approximately 8 hours. To reset, simply turn it off and on again.

How long does it take for the furniture to heat up?

You won’t be left waiting in the cold! Our conductive heating system starts heating immediately and typically reaches its set temperature anywhere between 5–15 minutes, depending on the outdoor temperature. If it's colder outside and you set the temperature to the highest level, it may take longer to reach full warmth.

You'll know it's heating when the green light is on. Once it reaches the set temperature, the yellow light will indicate that it's maintaining the desired warmth. This makes it easy to step outside on a whim and enjoy cozy comfort quickly!

Is the heat evenly distributed across the seating surface?

Absolutely! We design our heated furniture for consistent comfort. The radiant heat is evenly distributed across the entire seating surface, so you won’t encounter any hot spots or cool patches—just smooth, gentle warmth everywhere you sit.

To ensure even heat distribution, the heating coils are arranged in a spiral pattern throughout the seat and back. This design helps maintain uniform warmth across the surface, enhancing your comfort.

How much electricity does the furniture use? What is the wattage?

Galanter & Jones heated furniture consumes between 750 and 1,500 watts of electricity, depending on the model. but rest assured our designs are are energy-conscious with an internal thermostat and automatic shut-off feature. How will my piece of Galanter & Jones furniture wear over time?

Our furniture has been in the market for over 12 years so we know a thing or two about longevity and durability. All of our pieces are hand made from natural materials so slight variation in the finish and color is likely and not considered a defect. Hairline cracks can form over time and are not to be considered a defect, simply patina. Galanter & Jones pieces are incredibly resilient, however unintentional damage can occur and is easily avoidable. In order to avoid the formation of visible scratches, do not place or drag sharp or coarse objects on the surface (like those keys in your pocket!). Avoid any contact with acidic materials on the surface such as citrus, berries, olive oil, red wine as they can be harsh to the sealant and can possibly stain.

For excessive wear & tear, we sell at-home resealing kits for $40. Simply contact us and we'll help you place that order.

What’s the best way to care for my Galanter & Jones furniture?

Our outdoor furniture is incredibly durable and requires minimal to no maintenance. To avoid stains due to spills, we recommend keeping it clean using a mild, non-abrasive cleaner or simply warm water and a soft towel. Avoid anything abrasive, acidic or that contains bleach. These could damage the sealer. If you won’t be using the pieces for an extended period of time and in extreme conditions such as heavy snow, we recommend storing under an overhang or using a cover. Let us know if you are interested in ordering one!

Does Galanter & Jones furniture work in the snow?

Yes! Our pieces are wonderful in cold climates. Please keep in mind that they will take longer to heat up if it is very cold outdoors. They will reach about 100 degrees if it is freezing outside. If it is below freezing, go inside!

Does it get too hot on sunny days?

The dark colored stone will warm up in direct sunlight, however the stone will stay cool if it is in the shade, even on a hot day.

I live near the sea. Will the metal frame rust?

The frames are made from powder-coated stainless steel, which has great corrosion and weather resistance.

Well, this seems like a good idea for the east coast, why are you in California?

Our heated seats are for relaxing in all climates. California has plenty of beautiful weather but also a fair share of cloudy days and chilly nights that might normally drive you inside. Galanter & Jones furniture will keep you happy outdoors through all seasons.
